The California Enterprise Zone Program targets economically distressed areas throughout California. With 42 operating Enterprise Zones and additional zones under consideration, hundreds of thousands of California businesses are potentially eligible for significant tax breaks. Since incentives can be claimed retroactively, most first-time participants will receive substantial refunds of taxes paid in prior years.

For example, a single employee qualifying for the Enterprise Zone Hiring Credit can earn your company more than $30,000 in tax credits during a five-year period of employment.

California has also designated Targeted Tax Areas, Local Agency Military Base Recovery Areas (LAMBRAs), and other economic development areas offering similar tax benefits.
